Abstinence and Support Services

The Harmony Project - New Start's Substance Misuse Services

New Starts substance misuse service has been commissioned by Liverpool City Council to provide accommodation and support for people engaging in Abstinence or Harm Reduction Programmes - aiming to achieve recovery and stable lifestyles.

Abstinence and Harm Reduction Models have distinctive techniques for addressing and overcoming substance misuse. Therefore, we have developed the service in-line with this, enabling us to provide supported living environments that encourage the successful ‘recovery-journey’ of the service user.

Holistic support needs of those accessing the service are identified through our initial multiple needs risk assessment. This tool will also help to establish the location, and type of accommodation best suited to meet the needs of the service user i.e. the Abstinence-based or Harm Reduction element of the project.

Support planning is tailored to meet individual needs, and service users are empowered to explore their goals and future aspirations whilst focusing on achieving and maintaining stable lifestyles. Throughout this process the service user will develop natural progression towards greater independence, and resettlement paths that are sustainable to the individual will be identified.
