About Our Children's Services
New Start are currently in the process of developing a high quality, not-for-profit Children’s Residential Service in the Knowsley area of Merseyside.
At present the organisation is navigating the registration process with an aim of opening the provision during early May 2010.
If successful, the company intends for places at the service to be funded by either a single local authority, or by multiple local authorities in the Merseyside area.
What we do
New Start have developed a model of residential care for children and young people that will address their social, emotional, psychological and educational needs, as well as develop their self esteem and resilience so they can fully participate in society.
Accommodation / Provision
Brook Cottage has recently been fully refurbished to a very high standard; the house has been tastefully decorated and furnished throughout; and the accommodation comprises of five bedrooms, four of which are en-suite, a large through lounge, newly fitted out kitchen and adjoining dining area, utility room, office, and quiet room / family room.
Located in the Prescot area of Knowsley, the Cottage offers a high level of accommodation and facilities that New Start believe are essential for any type of residential service to be effective. The property stands in the privacy of its own spacious grounds and provides a homely setting which will assist in creating a safe and therapeutic environment where looked after children can feel at home.
Therapeutic Services
The Senior Management Team assigned to deliver the service have extensive experience of working in residential homes in both the public and private sectors. They have varied knowledgeable and professional backgrounds, and are fully trained in TCI (Therapeutic Care Intervention).
All children and young people who are placed in the care of New Start will have an individually tailored therapeutic plan. Their plan will reflect identified needs prior to entry, and will be drawn up with careful consultation from New Starts Chartered Psychologist. The therapuetic plan will be delivered by trained staff and supervised by the services' Chartered Psychologist.
The service will also assist by sourcing individually tailored specialist therapy for children and young people who have deep seated needs as a result of physical / sexual abuse or trauma. This more specialised therapy will be sourced from external agencies as directed by New Starts Chartered Psychologist.
The main therapeutic techniques underpinning the plans will be
‘Cognitive Behavioural and Solution Focused Therapy’.
Brook Cottage will provide a safe and secure environment with a dedicated staff team who are trained and experienced in all required areas of support; to ensure that a positive, therapeutic environment is created and maintained for children and young people placed in the care of New Start.

A highly skilled and experienced team will be leading the operation and further development of New Starts Children's Services. This will guarentee our ongoing commitment to providing a professionally-led, successful, outcome-focused model of childcare.
