New Start is a family-run business, originally formed in 1972 as a building and development company. Early work focused on renovating properties, and carrying out contract repair and maintenance work for housing associations across Merseyside.
By the 1980’s the company had build up a substantial portfolio of property within the Liverpool area, and found themselves being approached by various housing and care organisations seeking properties they could utilise to provide varying levels of supported housing.
By the mid 1990’s a large proportion of New Starts properties were being let to supported accommodation providers in the city. It was around this time that New Start acquired Strathmore Lodge. Its purpose was initially to provide Move-on accommodation for the Field Lane Hostel in Fazakerley. Service users moving into this property often had a history of re-curing homelessness and many suffered from a wide range of problems including drug and/or alcohol dependency, enduring mental illness or learning difficulties. New Start quickly identified that to manage tenants with such complexities a support strategy would need to be implemented. Therefore, the business began to adapt and evolve to meet such requirements, taking a new direction as a Social Landlord.
